Some photos deserve more than a small screen. A family portrait, a wedding photograph or a view from a memorable holiday can make a lovely addition to your home when printed at the right size.
It is ideal for marking a milestone, sharing family memories or enjoying the reactions when someone opens a thoughtful gift.
At Yorks Framing in Leeds, we produce photo enlargements with advice on paper, colour and presentation. We’ll help you find a finish that suits your image and the space where it will hang. Whether you know exactly what you want or need a little guidance, speak to our friendly team.
Photo Enlargements with an Experienced Eye
Making an image bigger also makes imperfections easier to see. A photograph that looks sharp on your phone may lose detail when enlarged, particularly if it has been cropped heavily or compressed.
Our background in photography and printing means we understand what to look for. Yorks Framing can assess your files, discuss colour balancing and recommend a suitable print size before you commit to an order.
For photo enlargements, start with the original file wherever possible. Pass us the full-resolution version rather than a screenshot or a copy downloaded from social media. This gives us more information to work with, ensuring your print has the best possible starting point.
Choose the Right Size for Your Wall
Our photo enlargements in Leeds suit everything from a small framed portrait to a large format print above a sofa. Popular choices include 10×8″ and 20×16″, alongside A4, A3 and A2 formats.
For a larger display, our printing range includes A0, approximately 84x119cm. Tell us your preferred dimensions, and we’ll check the options against your image.
The shape matters too. Turning a wide landscape into a square print can mean losing part of the scene. We’ll discuss cropping and borders so important faces, scenery and small details stay in view. If you already have a frame, bring its measurements to our workshop in Chapel Allerton.
Quality Paper and Carefully Considered Colour
The paper you choose affects how your photo enlargements look. Lustre offers a gentle sheen, gloss adds shine, and matt provides a quieter finish. Premium photographic papers help reproduce sharp detail and give wall prints a substantial feel.
At Yorks Framing, we can help you compare photographic and fine-art papers through our photo and art printing service. Colour balancing is available where required, whether you want natural skin tones or a better balance in a holiday photograph.
Black-and-white images deserve equal attention. The right paper and contrast can bring out texture, shadows and the atmosphere that makes a photograph special.
Photo Enlargements for Homes and Professional Displays in Leeds
A personal photograph and an exhibition print need different conversations. For your home in Leeds, we’ll consider the room, viewing distance and whether your photo enlargements will sit alongside other pictures.
For Leeds-based photographers and artists, accurate colour and consistency across a series may be the priority. Our giclée printing uses pigment-based inks on suitable fine-art media, with proofing options for colour-critical work.
Planning a large photo collage? Share your proposed layout and overall dimensions so we can discuss printing a prepared collage file. Each individual image needs enough detail for its place in the finished display.
Mounting, Framing and Canvas Options
Our photo enlargements can be finished with custom picture framing, helping you keep the printing and presentation together. A white mount creates breathing space around a photograph, while darker mount colours can pick up tones within the image.
Yorks Framing will guide you through mouldings, mounting and glazing to suit your picture and budget.
For a different look, ask about cotton canvas prints and our canvas framing options. Canvas stretching wraps the printed material around a wooden stretcher bar frame, with edge treatments considered as part of the design.

Frequently Asked Questions
What resolution does my photo need for an enlargement?
We recommend around 300 pixels per inch at the finished print size for detailed photographs viewed closely. Around 150 pixels per inch can be suitable for large prints viewed from further away, but it is not a guarantee of quality. Sharpness, compression and cropping also matter. Send us your original file and tell us the size you want; we’ll advise on what is realistic.
Is 3,500 × 5,300 pixels enough for a 60 × 90cm print?
A file measuring approximately 3,500 × 5,300 pixels gives around 150 pixels per inch at 60 × 90cm. This can work for a wall print viewed from a distance, provided the original photograph is sharp. For close viewing, more pixels may be preferable. We’ll check your image before recommending that size.
Can you enlarge a small image without losing quality?
It depends on the starting image and how much larger you want it. Resampling adds pixels, and standard interpolation estimates their values from surrounding pixels. It cannot reliably recover details that were never captured. We can assess the file and explain the likely result rather than promise that every image will stay sharp. Adobe’s guide to image resolution explains this process further.
Can you enlarge an old printed photograph?
Yes, Yorks Framing offers scanning and restoration services for old photographs. Bring the original into our shop so we can assess its condition and discuss the enlargement. Colour balancing or repairs to creases, tears, and blemishes may improve its appearance, with any additional work quoted based on what is needed.
